I see where to pick how 'only friends' are allowed to start chat's with you.

But there seems to be no way to block people you don't know at all, stalkers, and people you'd just rather not hear from, etc, from messaging you??

My site is for those in entertainment industries and basic choice of Privacy features are a must. Hopefully I'm missing something obvious.

Also (under preferences) I see that once your turn off Functions for members, they are still asked about it in their preferences.  Like for instance if they aren't Allowed to make blog posts they are asked "notify me when someone comments on my blogs".

That seems to take away the Pro Feel  of the site if there are big discrepancies like that. Just an opinion

Thanks for the input Dave!! That's definitely a start to know :). . .yet for my site we have people pretty high up in the entertainment world.

Some of these in our main NYC and LA hubs (and we know just by polling our members offline), absolutely do Not want profiles that can have random people from across the country messaging them.
Now I'm really not sure what to do. haha. I feel this is an absolute most just like facebook has. . where people can have control over this~ or can at least limit their messages to their friend circles

I'm only seeing it for the chat, not the messages. I've been trying to find something that could help for hours haha

Thank you for moving Ross!! Anyone have a solution to the privacy breaches yet?

The whole point of my site was so those in the Christian Art N Entertainment worlds could have *Public* profiles so they could show off their work in niche marketing....  + we could feature their public profiles on facebook, in newsletters.

And now if they can't do that just so they can avoid random people that they don't know from filling up their inboxes?

I mean I won't even be able to use my own website as I'd want to have myself as the 'Network Founder' public... yet I can't have 1000s of people from across the country being able to inbox me cause I'll never be able to respond.

To be honest we have moderate well know celebs wanting to use the site. Again they can't have such an invasion of privacy.  Option for 'only friends' like everything else is sooo vital.

Thanks guys!

Hope I'm not being a pain lately w trying to figure out some of these things before launch :P I imagine once everything is set, I won't need to use the forums so often :)

Hope everyone has a great week!! <3

Michele, I may suggest you to disable messages and leave only chat functionality. You can do it in Admin Area> Plugins> Installed plugins> Messages section. Change the "Choose messages mode" from current mode to the Chats.

Thanks Taissa! Hope you're well!

I did eventually end up thinkin of that yet when testing it between accounts it seems members can't send messages to each other unless they BOTH happen to be online? Am I wrong I'm hoping?
I'd still like members (who maybe aren't high up in the industries/ or celebrities, and want to) to be able privately send a message to each other at any time.
We will have job postings so this option is vital.

Is this coming do ya know, to give users their own choice (like they get to choose their privacy for chats) with messaging?

Michele, users may send each other the instant chat messages even if one of them offline. If you would like that users may send chat messages each other only if they are friends, you will need to install the Friends plugin and  set up the Privacy settings properly.

Ok thanks, I did find how to message people that weren't online on chat, but the thing is it's such a tiny text area in which to write in (you can literally only write a sentence before having to scroll haha) . . and I know that this won't work for a site that largely relies off of jobs and resume's being sent.

I downloaded TinyChat but that seems to also be for online and Not really what I'm looking for, plus no way to have it go under 'my preferences'.

~~

I figured I would be ok if most users were allowed to message, but I would NEED Separate categories/ User Roles. . . So Admins and Celebs could Not be mailed.

So I tried Testing this in User Roles. I put it so Admins couldn't Read Mails, but this isn't really working either cause users can just go their page, send a private message, and they think that their question is being sent. . .and then I'd just be a bad Admin ignoring people's mails that they have no idea aren't being sent/ read.

Anyone want to create a plug in for the true privacy system I need? LoL   :)

Michele, you are right, presently there is no such privacy functionality for messages and you will need to create a plugin.

If you are not familiar with the code modification or plugin development, it would be better for you to find a developer who can help you. You can do it here: http://www.oxwall.org/market/specialists .

Also if you sure that this is really essential for all oxwall users to add additional privacy for messages, then feel free to submit your idea at Oxwall uservoice to set it priority higher. We use our suggest board as one of the ways to show our product designers what features are the most essential. You can do it here:  http://oxwall.uservoice.com/forums/13756-ideas-for-oxwall .

Michele, concerning the TinyChat plugin in point of fact this plugin is just an embedded iframe code from the tinychat.com site. That is why it has no privacy or other Oxwall settings but only their own settings.

Using this SMS platform has significantly increased our marketing efficiency. The ability to segment audiences and tailor personalized messages added a new dimension to our campaigns. We have seen an increase in customer response compared to email and social media https://bbox-solutions.com/sms/ . It is especially valuable that the platform provides detailed analytics for each mailing, allowing us to optimize strategies in real time. However, I would like to see more integrations with other services to expand functionality.
