Oxwall and Skadate seem to be boasting out-of-the-box on-site SEO optimisation. I found that it is not 100% accurate. Here is a report run against a typical oxwall powered site:

·        Missing heading tag: H1

·        Missing heading tag: H4

·        Missing heading tag: H5

·        Missing heading tag: H6

·        HTML is not W3C validated.

·        Add alt tags to all images.

·        Add your keyword to an image alt tag.

·        Remove underscores from image filenames.

·        Your webpage doesn't take the advantages of HTML Microdata specifications in order to markup structured data.

·        We have found URLs that are not SEO friendly!

Also one of the bigger problems is no system generated sitemap.xml. There are plugins but they only work with limited set of other plugins which does not cover the entire site.

What can be done to improve onsite SEO? Can these features be flagged for future release(s)?

+10000

We've been singing the same song since 2012 we have so many songs about SEO we can make a double album but Oxwall as always seems to be more on fixing unnecessary things. But i think now i know why they have been slacking, they have been busy working on their Oxwall.com which they've launched. So i guess for the opensource or self - hosted sites we are last on the list.

I have been crying with others about better and Improved :

1) SEO
2) Forums
3) Mobile

as to the w3c validation please read this post: http://www.oxwall.org/forum/topic/3172

as to the alt tags, it's been already reported and will be fixed asap.

as to the microdata, we have not implemented it, as it is fairly new part of the html.

to improve on site SEO, generate unique and user-friendly content on the regular basis, promot your site via social media sites to create inbound links and many more, you can find info regarding SEO in Google.

Not for me.

I understand. Unfortunately, as we have some other, more important issues on our hand and being a small team, we can't address every issue, that's nearly impossible, which is why we had to priorotize them.

You can make a suggestion regarding Microdata to uservoice: https://oxwall.uservoice.com/forums/13756-ideas-for-oxwall if it gets many voices, our team will consider implementing it.

As to the alt tags, the issue also been reported and will be fixed in one of the upcoming updates of the software.

I've asked before for a detailed road map so we can see what you're prioritising over good seo and been told you won't release it. I think we're entitled to see what the development team is actually working on.

The road map provided is not detailed and useless.

I can fully understand they and ross have to much to doing right now, but when a company have to much work to do they uselly hire more people?

I not see any new people at oxwall for a long time if you look at the oxwall group here http://www.oxwall.org/foundation

I feel they like keep this business in the family with friends and people that live in same country.

Is the doors closed for other dev join your team?

Maybe im wrong here? Then show me some proof that you looking for other dev joining you team not only speak. it is easy speak say we look for more people but i believe only if i see some proof for it.

and again i can understand they have to much work if to little people...

Hi Ross,

How can SEO be of low priority Ross?, no one wants their website to be ranked lowest on Google Search...Come on....Today is all about visibility in any business. Remember some of us are using oxwall as business to earn an income and we want our business to be known.

I guess Highest Priority for you guys is :

* Skalfa

* Wall.fm

* Oxwall.com

Look if people don't know that this should be a priority then honestly Ross the dev team should be telling them that it is. SEO is of utmost importance to every site ever made with oxwall. We have all been waiting around for traffic and you guys refuse to make the changes that google requires to rank content filled sites above sites with no content. It is the single biggest problem we all face.

as to the w3c validation please read this post: http://www.oxwall.org/forum/topic/3172

Will be another year

as to the alt tags, it's been already reported and will be fixed asap.

I recall you telling Tammy it may or may not be a priority and should be addressed in a few updates from now

as to the microdata, we have not implemented it, as it is fairly new part of the html.

Thats the point how about giving us an seo advantage for once instead of a disadvantage

to improve on site SEO, generate unique and user-friendly content on the regular basis, promot your site via social media sites to create inbound links and many more, you can find info regarding SEO in Google.

I have been here for over 4 years and have seen many popular sites go through the headache of changing platforms because they had so much content that wasn't ranking.

W3C Standards For SEO

In addition to the image alternate attribute, there are several other HTML standard tags, that when properly used (in accordance with W3C guidelines for valid coding of web pages), are clearly SEO best practices as well. Whether it’s proper use of header tags, bolding, bullet point implementation, or any one of dozens upon dozens of elements to HTML, it’s clear that a site IS better off from an SEO perspective, when that site meets those standards.

Heck, if a site is so botched up in the validation process, it’s even possible that Google won’t even be able to index it.

You can see from these three example why it is very important to all of us wether we think it is or not. We dont need to vote. We dont need to fill out user voice. We need a dev team that cares that we are all wasting time and money building sites google will never see if you guys dont fix these issues.

It really just proves the point that oxwall finds these things important enough to use to market themselves but not important enough for users to do the same. Hypocrisy at its finest. I have been saying this for years. Why does this website use a wordpress blog. Is there something wrong with oxwalls blog?
