Linking Oxwall to an external FTP storage box | Forum

Hello Oxwall community!

Our site runs on a 2GB, 2 Core VPS with 50GB of storage for £25 a month. We also this year broke off our database into a specialised database server which has sped up our site no end and means the VPS can focus on compressing images and serving our users content faster.

We expect that our 50GB shall be used up one day, our site currently uses shy of 2GB.

Our site has a custom build photo plugin adapted from the default photo plugin. I was wondering though that if we bought a storage box from, say Hetzner would it be possible that our site could use that for storing photos and the base content stays on the VPS? The storage box uses FTP to connect to it.

Does Oxwall have a built in option for something like this? I understand that there is a feature for linking to AWS but their prices far exceed what we can budget for. The alternative is we customise our plugin to use FTP details which we will need another developer for.

Thank you very much for any help or ideas you can provided us with!

I don't understand much about servers, but I have learned through experience that it is better to have all services in the same company.

Especially because when something doesn't work right, they blame each other.

I think that with 50 Gb you have more than enough, but two VPS cores is very little and that makes your web go slow.

I recommend four or six, OxWall/Skadate is a great consumer of these resources when many users connect simultaneously.

goodness, four or six cores. I have never ran a site on more than two and we used CloudFlare to offload some of the work. Also after splitting off the database to a specialised server we found our site working much much faster.

I know of a German company called Contabo who offer amazing VPS options. They are very reliable so I would recommend them! I have yet to hear from any of the developers I mailed about making the photo plugin store its photos to another server through FTP. Although it would be unlikely our site shall fill the 50GB a dedicated storage server would be much faster and open the possibility of making our content more easy to send over a CDN.
