I am applying to colleges as a cyber security major but one of the things I was researching was the meltdown and spectra the cpu cash flaws. I know that most cpus have received patches to combat these flaws, but my question is if you were trying to infect a cpu with one of these could you simply flash the bios with a faulty patch and then infect it? I understand bios passwords and protections exist but those are fairly easy to bypass with physical access to a machine. So my other question would be does the bios on the motherboard have anything to do with patching viruses at the root of a cpu or other hardware?
