Francis, adding new actions which will give user additional credits requires custom code modifications. There isn't an easy way around this.
Regarding your particular requirement about giving credits for "reading". I don't recommend doing so, you will never know whether user actually read the forum. The only way to guess is to give credits if user spent certain amount of time on certain page. Personally, I think that users will just open the forum to get credits without actually reading anything. It is much more reliable to give credits for daily logins ( which we have in our plugin).
