So I discovered my rat likes to carry cat balls around Might as well put the ignored cat toys to use My rat mostly just carries the balls a short distance and maybe hide them in her nest box where she may gnaw on them.
Is there a particular type of cat ball that is safe for rats to play with? The ones I have contain a jingle bell inside. The one ball my rat really likes is Styrofoam covered in a green and yellow rope similar to this one. I've had to take the ball away when I hear the crunch of the Styrofoam as my rat gnaws on it. Styrofoam can't be good if ingested and neither is the bell inside. Her next favorite ball is similar to this one. The slots make it easy for her to carry the ball but also easy to gnaw through. I have random other balls: foam with no bell, stuffed fabric balls with no bell, a solid plastic ball with bell inside, balls with feathers and other dangly things attached (probably not ideal to use as a rat toy).
When people train their rats to do tricks like put a ball through a mini hoop, what kind of ball are they using? Ping pong? Something else?
