Has anybody renamed their admin directory? I would like to name this to something more obscure.

I have not but great idea :)  i actually just set up a passworded dir thru cPanel on it to give me a extra layer but renaming it would be great to.   Hopefully someone has done this and will let us know.

I just did a search and sadly there are quite a few places especially in ow_plugins that have the admin dir "admin/" hard coded so we would need to change those values to what we wanted or set up a var for the value,  it would be a custom job for sure.

Lets hope when they do 1.6  they use a var for the admin dir and allow us to set that name we want to use in the config file.

Yeah, I'll have to stick with locking it down via cpanel I guess. If I get some time I will look into it some more and update this thread. Thanks, Dave.

Yeah if you use agent randsack, i just did a search for admin/  and thats how i found the init files that had the hard coded dir.   It would not be that big of a job to do it our way but then again when 1.6 comes out we will have to redo it.

Another way to lock it down would be to limit the IP access to the directory. Obviously if you have a dynamic IP address this is tougher, but you can add subnet lists to at least only allow people from your internet provider to get to it.

I thought about that too. My home IP is dynamic though. I think the number of subnets my ISP (Cox) uses maybe more than some countries have as a whole. I think a rename would be the easiest way to go about it.
