I meant how is THIS chat a hole for a DDOS. What code insecurities are there that can be used as a vunerability where someone can exploit or are you being generic and saying any IM on a site can be a potential security hole?

Enough to make a general request to the plugin file (need a registered user to DDOS attacks on the chat ** but not necessarily).

@Bob: the info u provided is somewhat correct.. but i tried this thing.. and in the same situation.. and still after 3 days that friends were online!!
Also, the profile was also showing the same.. (online) but i put all accounts offline by closing my browser.. this is an interesting bug in Oxwall..:P but still needs to be cured out.

In Short: this whole thing (Chat and Online Status) in oxwall depends upon the Sign out thingy.. if the browser is closed without signing out the status will be the same i.e. online

Friends showing online forever points to a cron job problem.

BEST way to test is to have 2 accounts, log into one account using firefox and log into the other account using Google Chrome (Don't use IE, no other reason than it is a crap browser).
Now use Firefox user to request friends of the Chrome user. Accept the request using the Chrome user. Now in Chat the 2 users will be friends, they should show up in instant chat.

Closing your browser wont put accounts to offline.

But still this is an Interesting BUG.

I seem to have a lag problem with instant chat as I can see the other party and my messages but they say they cannot see my messages.

I've done the same experiment as Saraubh using 2 browsers (chrome/firefox) and my cron jobs also run every minute, but the users stay logged on forever unless they log out.

Is there some sort of automatic timeout to log the user out automatically upon closing browser?  If so, it doesn't seem to be working.

Also, on chat plugin configuration, I tried selecting "friends only" mode but in the user privacy screen, the user is still shown options to have chat available to "Everyone, Friends, Just Me".  This is confusing.  If chat is in "friends only" mode, they shouldn't see the option to be visible to everyone.
