i have disable music, books and movies at sign up in the questions section, but nothing happens. I can see the this fields nevertheless.

1. Can you provide screen shot of the place where you have unchecked checkbox for "sign up"?
2. When you tested, are you sure that you checked join form? ( sometimes people check profile edit page instead of join one).
3. Try opening your join page in another browser OR clean cache memory of existing one.
4. How many account types do you have on your site?
