Basically, Apache 2 or higher (with mod_rewrite module) is recommended to run oxwall properly.

nginx is a lightweight, high-performance Web server/reverse proxy and e-mail (IMAP/POP3) proxy.I think It is not very useful to host oxwall.

Yes, oxwall can be run with Nginx without problems. Oxwall.org work on nginx without any problems :) But typically, nginx is setup with apache web server to proxify dynamic queries and handle mod_rewrite. I think you will need to configure mod_rewrite on nginx to get it worked without apache.
