Newsfeed: link action not shown on feed, only owner name[Answered] | Forum

Hi there,

I notice that newly posted links show up in the newsfeed only showing the owner instead of the text being configured as ie. "owner posted a new link" similar when posting a new event or a new video etc.

The attached image shows in black text the action for a new event on the first action, the second action only shows the name where I would expect similar black text mentioning the action.

The language file contains the right text but seems not to be used.

Anybody else experiencing this behaviour or is this a known bug?

Using IE11 on Windows 8.1 and tested as Admin

Thanks,
Eric

What text is supposed to be used? This is how it works currently. Newsfeed does not show any action related to the link creation.

Well, if somebody ads a new link on the site I would expect the text "admin added a new link" or something similar on the newsfeed same as when adding a new event or group. I am pretty sure in the language file I find similar text but when a link is added I can only see the name of the person who added it without the other text.

But if this is by design then I think it should be added to the newsfeed/timeline.

The following 'actions' from what I could detect are mentioned with 'full' text: new user, new group, new event, new discussion.

A new photo, video or link only shows the name who added the item on the newsfeed but any other accompanying text is not shown. (ie. 'has added new photo(s)' )

Yes, that happened because we transferred to new formats in 2012, and they key and value you're talking about:

<a href="{$userUrl}">{$user}</a> posted new link: <a href="{$url}">{$title}</a> <a class="ow_small" href="{$permalink}">#</a>

has been removed from the code, now it is just username, title, permalink. However, you can make a suggestion on uservoice, if you get enough votes, our team will consider reverting the changes.

:) Okay thanks, I'll leave it up to the community/dev.team. I just thought it made sense to draw one line regarding new additions.

BTW. When typing here posting a reply I experience letter-loss meaning if I type to fast letters are missing and I am sure I typed them. Might be browser related?

Thanks,

Eric
