Hi,

I have been looking for a FB replacement for quite some time, and just now have stumbled upon Oxwall.

My first impression of it is quite pleasant and promising. In the long run I'm imagining to have a nation wide coverage, but I'm not an experienced hosting engineer. What kind of hardware capacity am I looking at, if I am expecting that kind of load?

sincerely,

Andy

Try Arvixe VpsClass, 50$ month

Tell them to install: CloudFare, APC and webserver Nginx instead of Apache.

With 40 users online (chatters) the cpu load is 0.30 (VpsClass have 4.0 cpu load max) so I think it take 500 online chatters. If you want you can upgrade cpu or memory

Andy, you will need to have a couple of dedicated servers, let alone the software optimization if we speak about a nation coverage. It is hard to say right now, how many and what you will need for your website to run smoothly, as that may depend on user activity, plugins you use, your website management as a whole

My early guess, since it's a new social network I'm trying to promote.. let's just say 50,000 visitors a day. Plugins should be mostly multimedia related e.g. pictures, videos. Everything else can be added after a period of time.

My concern is primarily on the monthly hosting fee I should shell out, never try to develop a social network before.

Thanks for the suggestion Simone.

Since it's going to be a brand new social network I guess 500 online chatters is still within our projection. This information is very helpful to compose our proposal.

Thanks for the warning Tammy. Is there any alternative hosting company I should go with instead? My early projection for the website is around 50,000 visitors a day, max 500 online chatters.

I've purchased a dedicated server from wiredtree.com and I pay $65 a month.

I have plugins (which I have developed) that allow users to upload videos, process those videos, and them stream them as well as other quite intensive tasks.

My site currently has around 500 visits a day, with 100 active users at any given time so far.

My CPU load is under 10% the entire time. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for this highly useful information Sean. I may also looking at the same numbers as you are. I guess the monthly fee is very acceptable with that kind of quality.

@Tammy - Have you tried our hosting services previously? Which video series are you referring to?

@Andy - Good luck with your website :). Whilst launching I would recommend you start with a VPS server as you can then upgrade rather easily as your website grows.

I can also say we are one of the few companies Oxwall officially recommends as a hosting partner and are the only recommended hosting company to have a dedicated community liaison posting regular blog articles to help you: http://blog.arvixe.com/category/cpanel/oxwall/

If you have any questions feel free to reach out to me: alex.ali@arvixe.com or to our sales team (sales [at] arvixe.com) or simply reply here and I will be happy to assist you :).

Thanks for noticing my post Alex. As of the website it's still quite a long way from launching, if ever. We're still in the early proposal stage, and things are still being determined including what kind of software we should be running on.

Hopefully we can go with Oxwall, and then there's already several clouds available to us. I've glanced upon your plan rates I think it's reasonable provided the server response is acceptable.

Hello, thank you for noticing my inquiry about Oxwall's cloud service. I am still pushing for my proposal to come through so everything is still undecided yet, but should it finally happens I will most likely find Arvixe to host it.

Hello Andy I'd suggest you to check out services from ACE cloud hosting they have a vast number of plans and services depending on your needs and resource usage, moreover you can easily scale up your resources without any hassles as your social media platform grows.

I'm surprised people would still respond to my question from 2014 :o

Thank you for the valuable advice, Daniel. Regretfully, the investors didn't want to go through with the project. But up to this day, I haven't seen any other options beside Oxwall.
