The newer chat plugin that is supposed to add a chat on the top menu bar for the users? I uploaded the unzipped folder into the appropriate place. Then ...I get this

Version of Oxwall? Login to the admin and on admin dashboard should say on right the version and build.

You should really consider backing up your site and upgrading, OxWall is on 1.2.4.

I will do that as soon as I figure out how to back up the site..-s- Feeling kind of dumb that I didn't consider my version before asking for help. lol

if you have made core edits or theme edits you will have to back these up separately as the upgrades will overwrite your core files.
Also you should be able to perform a backup fro your host control panel. Just to be on the safe side and use:
http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/40 to import.
It may not be your version but it is always good practice to keep it updated to narrow it down your chances of issues.
