maybe you could add a counter of clicks on a file link, counting the downloads. In the file overview and file list, these stats (x downloads) could be then displayed.

A simple javascript event handler could be added to the download link which then increases the counter in the mySQL table. Would be a very helpful thing, esp. since files cannot be rated (yet) ...
