Are you saying that group updates are not displayed in the Newsfeed after update to 1.3.1? And you are a group member, right?

also, if a post is commented on it doesn't move to the top of the newsfeed any more??

It was a bug in previous version when activity from group was shown in newsfeed. If somebody comments, answers topic in group, it shouldn't be posted in public, only in user's dashboard who is attended in this group.
