Add highlighted text to hyperlink "Text to display" | Forum

When one highlights some text then clicks the hyperlink button, one expects the highlighted text to be used as the "Text to display" but on Geek.Zone it is not, the field remains blank and one must retype the text. How can I fix this?

I'm sorry James, but you need to elaborate the issue you have, screenshot would be great, as it is hard to understand what you're trying to accomplish.

Just noticed it does the same thing here too, so perhaps its a problem with oxwall. Follow these steps;

1. Type some text

2. Highlight a word that you want to turn in to a hyperlink

3. Click the "Insert Link" button

4. Notice that the word you typed previously has not been copied to the "Text to display:" or "Label" field on the "Insert Link" box, meaning that you have to re-type it.

When one highlights a word, one expects any subsequent action to be applied to it. This does not happen when inserting a hyperlink in oxwall. I'm sure it's just a bug that needs fixing.

It's not supposed to work like that, you need to fill out both forms manually

That's no good, like I said, users expect the highlighted text to be used as the text they want to add the hyperlink to. Every other content management system does it properly, from MediaWiki to Wordpress. Like I have said before, if oxwall wants to survive, it's just got to get these fundamental functionality in place.

You can make a suggestion on uservoice: http://oxwall.uservoice.com/forums/13756-ideas-for-oxwall

if it gets enough voices, we'll consider implementing it.

In the meantime this is considered as a custom code modification, you need to do that on your own or hire a programmer: http://www.oxwall.org/market/specialists

I will move this post to the custom code modification section, probably some community member will assist you to achieve that.

I agree, It's not intuitive.  Users do tend to expect that the highlighted text will appear in the box.

I agree with Matt; this is yet another fundamental bit of functionality that should be in the Oxwall core as standard, not a custom code modification or something that should wait for uservoice. I say again, if Oxwall wants to survive, it must get the basics in place.
