I just installed the speed optimizer and the plugin doesn't merge and compress css and js. The MySQL caching is working.

Hi Oliver,
The problem can be caused by absense of working directories, wrong permissions or inactive cron. Can you please check it. You can also provide FTP details and I'll check and fix it myself ASAP.

thanks for the reply, unfortunately I cannot provide FTP credentials.
cron is active and running, permissions are relatively restrictive, but 777 for: ow_log, ow_pluginfiles, ow_static and ow_userfiles (including all subdirectories).
does the plugin need to create a working directory outside of these folders?
