Minimum Version for Plugin Updates enforced? | Forum

I noticed that a Plugin update (Friends Plugin) had a problem (missing constant) and it looks like the Problem is that I have updated the Plugin but not the Core.

I was under the impression that Plugins can state minimum versions (at least in the store it is listed as 1.7.5 and I had 1.7.4), but it was still offered as an update. Is this expected and can it be improved? (plugin.xml seems to have no such entry for the friends plugin).

I think it is quite common that people update plugins more often than the core (given it needs more testing and merging custom code changes).

Bernd, our position is that we strongly recommend keeping the Software up-to-date.  In every update we improve functionality, enhance security, fix major and minor bugs. You should update your site (both platform and plugins) to improve it. That is why there is no minimum version for our plugins because every new updated plugin is compatible with the latest software version only.
As I know we have plans to implement the new check to the system. It will check if a new software version is available before you  proceed with your plugins upgrade.

Thanks Taissa,

I haven't seen a clear statement that you need to update core before plugin. I guess it would help to add it to the update documentation: https://docs.oxwall.org/install:update (and possibly on the install:plugin as well.

Bernd, thank you for this good idea. As I said before we are going to implement the new check to the system and it will clarify all the obscurities related to the update of platform and plugins.
