Heyo, all. I had several issues upgrading to 1.8 and it appears they still continue. My database appears to be 1.8.1 but source files are still outdated. This is after several attempts to upgrade automatically as well as override manually via FTP. It's halted many projects I've wanted to complete on my Oxwall site for some time and so I'm ready for a nuclear option since my current install appears unsalvageable.

As such, I'm going to attempt a fresh install of 1.8.1 and import and users/content over. My Oxwall site has many users and 3 years worth of site content that I'd like to bring over. I plan to attempt this this weekend. From my research on these forums and docs, the steps appear to be:

1. Install Oxwall 1.8.1 in a new subfolder on my domain

2. EITHER set the database to my current Oxwall database in config.php OR

3. Create a new database and import my current database to it

4. Install all current third-party plugins

5. Copy and import the ow_userfiles folder

6. Other?

I post this to absolutely make sure I'm on the right track as I'd like to resolve the ongoing issues I've been experiencing. I'd also appreciate any tips from experienced users who have done this before, especially with 1.8.

Thanks!

why do you assume you have outdated files? If you upload manually update archive and unpacked it, your files should be overwritten.

aso the installing new site.

if you install it in the subfolder on the same server.

1. follow the usual steps of installing the 1.8.1 software

2. copy the config.php file content from your old website and insert it in the new config.php file and change your home uri to the current one. ( we do that in order to use old database and have the same SALT for users not to restore the passwords)

3. copy ow_userfiles folder from old location and paste it in new location(in the subfolder website)

that's is.
