Not without a plugin or some very custom coding. I dont even know if its possible even then to be honest. The script is based on username at its core so it would be a real challenge to accomplish this in my opinion.  

The only way i can see to have that affect is by using facebook connect plugin for everyone.  That way they sign up / sign in  using their FB account which is by email.
