Simple question. But new...
Would like to change the text "Sign Up" to "Join" but don't know where it is stored? Does it depend on the theme being used, or is it part of general Oxwall code?

You should be able to do this in the languages section "admin / settings / languages". Use the keyword search of "sign up".
