Who know how can I display and a text messages next to (or before) the number of messages received by a user on top of page (next to the small anvelope :) )

I attached and a picture to exemplify.... 

I speak with some users and they tell me that they don't know what that bubble and number are and they don't realise that this means that they have new messages...

Sometime users are ...... let's say just NOT I.T. guy's :)))) .... (let's not say stupid's :) )
