I would like to know how we can make it so that all users start out friends so that users aren't just sitting there by themselves posting to only themselves and admin?

There is a plug-in great. But I think it could be achieved by editing newsfeed Dao or class need to check which though. Newsfeed collects data based on entityId. Simply switch that to timestamp desc

Just take notes baby like many of us do.
I like modefying core files case some plugings are very agresive and will slow the site down by adding bunch of useless queries. I only edit what I need unless it's very easy to achieve with a plug-in.
Install ow on localhist do your edits. Test it before applying the patch on life site.
Create a file call it... Read before upgrade. Note which file and what code had been modefied.
