Solution 1: Use the QuickBooks File Doctor Tool
Download and run the QuickBooks File Doctor Tool from the official Intuit website.
Follow the on-screen prompts to install and use the tool.
The tool will automatically identify and repair network-related issues that may be causing Error H101.
Solution 2: Verify Hosting Settings
Open QuickBooks on all affected computers.
Go to the "File" menu and select "Utilities."
If you see "Host Multi-User Access" on any of the computers, it means that computer is not hosting the company file. Change the hosting setting to "Stop Hosting Multi-User Access."
If you see "Stop Hosting Multi-User Access" on any of the computers, change the setting to "Host Multi-User Access."
Solution 3: Check Firewall and Security Software Settings
Verify that your firewall or security software is not blocking QuickBooks communication.
Ensure that the following ports are not blocked:
QuickBooks Desktop 2019: 8019, 56727, 55378-55382
QuickBooks Desktop 2018: 8019, 56726, 55373-55377
QuickBooks Desktop 2017: 8019, 56725, 55368-55372
Solution 4: Create a New Folder for Your Company File
Create a new folder on the hosting computer.
Share the folder and set Windows access permissions to share company files.
Copy the .QBW file to the new folder.
Solution 5: Edit the Hosts File
On the hosting computer, press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
Type %windir%\system32\drivers\etc and press Enter.
Locate the "hosts" file and right-click to open it with Notepad.
Add the server's IP address and computer name at the end of the file.
Save the changes and try opening QuickBooks in multi-user mode.
