I just wanted to know why can't I add a gift category name greater than four letters?
I have tried hard but when I gave a gift category name greater than four letters, it comes up as "cat1", "cat2", etc.
How can I solve this?

It happened to me as well.
I have the solution after creating it ,it will be like cat1,cat2 then click edit and rename it will be permanent

reupload the language zip file by going to the language section and see if this solves the issue maybe?

joseph when the category is more than four letters it causes this issue less than that its fine..

Suresh, we are aware of this issue.
For now you can also add a test category named 123.
Then after that one keep adding others, in that case category names should also be saved properly.
Delete 123 category once you are done.
