QuickBooks error H505 is typically a Company file linked issue which generally manifests when the user tries transferring the company files to a PC not meeting the minimal system requirements mandated for the operations of the QuickBooks program. Other major source of this error and other errors belonging to the Hxxx series of error codes is the changed location of the company file, or impediment caused by some conflicting program running at the backend.

Solution 1: Use the QuickBooks File Doctor

Download and Install QuickBooks File Doctor:

Download and install the QuickBooks File Doctor tool from the official Intuit website.

Run QuickBooks File Doctor:

Open QuickBooks and run the QuickBooks File Doctor tool.

Choose File:

Select the company file that is showing Error H505.

Run Diagnostics:

Follow the on-screen instructions to allow the tool to diagnose and repair issues.

Wait for Repair to Complete:

The tool will attempt to repair the file and resolve hosting issues. Wait for the process to complete.

Open the Company File:

Try opening the company file again in QuickBooks.


Solution 2: Verify Hosting Settings

Check Hosting on Server Computer:

On the computer where the company file is stored, open QuickBooks.

Go to "File" > "Utilities" and ensure that "Host Multi-User Access" is selected.

Check Hosting on Client Computers:

On each client computer, open QuickBooks.

Go to "File" > "Utilities" and ensure that "Stop Hosting Multi-User Access" is selected.

Restart QuickBooks on All Computers:

Restart QuickBooks on both the server and client computers.

Try Opening the File:

Attempt to open the company file on one of the client computers.
