Katie, this feature comes with the "Newsfeed" plugin by default. Are posts on your site not clickable? Can you give an example?

Katie, can you check whether "Newsfeed" plugin is up to date on your site?
Regarding photos, seems like adding images doesn't work on your site in general ( photos, avatars, wall). This topic might be helpful: http://www.oxwall.org/forum/topic/2098
