The Arctic polar bear, scientifically known as Ursus maritimus, is a charismatic apex predator uniquely suited to its frigid environment. Evolved adaptations include a dense layer of blubber for insulation and buoyancy, coupled with a double-layered fur coat for warmth. Exceptional swimmers, they rely on their powerful front limbs to propel them through icy waters in pursuit of seals, their main food source. Sadly, the accelerating effects of climate change and sea ice depletion pose a significant threat to their habitat and food supply, pushing polar bears towards endangerment.
