This update error is especially observed when using “Update QuickBooks Desktop” feature in QuickBooks. The primary causes of this update error 15106 in QuickBooks are:

  • QuickBooks files are corrupted
What solutions can contribute to the fixation of QuickBooks Update Error 15106?

This update error can be rectified by implementing the following solutions;

Solution 1: Use the Admin account to login to the PC
  • Start the computer as the administrator.
  • Now, run QuickBooks as an admin by right-clicking on its icon, followed by making choice for "Run as Administrator".
  • Now, move to the “Help” tab and then go to “Update QuickBooks Desktop”.

  • Follow the steps for updating, and finally click on the “Get update” option.
Solution 2: Update QuickBooks Desktop manually

The manual process requires heading to the website of Intuit and therein, provide the relevant details related to your QuickBooks version. Now, you need to download the latest updates related to your currently installed QuickBooks version and then install it on your system. This should bypass QuickBooks Error 15106.

Solution 3: Turn off the antivirus
  • Hold down the “Ctrl + Alt + Delete” keys to “launch Task Manager”.
  • After that hit a click on the “Processes” tab.

  • Disable the processes related to the antivirus and also the ones related to QuickBooks.
  • Thereafter, go for the "End Task" option.
  • Now, try the QuickBooks Update process once again.
Solution 4: Rename the QuickBooks folder
  • Initially, you need to press “Win + E" keys to open the “File Explorer.”
  • After that move to the destination [Drive]:/Components in Program Files/Intuit/QuickBooks
  • Now, right-click on the QB folder and choose “Rename”.
  • Add the extension “.OLD” to the folder name.
  • Now, try the update again and check if Error 15106 is curbed.

Step 1: In case you have already logged in as a different user follow the steps below:

At first, move to the QuickBooks desktop icon.

And then right-click the same.

Afterward, select the Run as administrator option.

Type in the Admin credentials and hit click on the OK tab.This will log you in as an admin.
Step 2: You can login the admin account by switching the account by carrying out the steps below:Initially, hit a click on the Start menu.Then click on the Switch user option from the bottom right side arrow.Now enter the Admin credentials.This will easily Switch the user account to admin account.
