Is it possible to set it up so that people receive email notifications on posts etc, either in the forum or on their wall, and then they can reply to, with email? Or is it possible for moderators to have this ability?

So to be clear I am looking for something that does a cross between this

and this

If it were not possible for all users to have this ability, maybe just site administrators/moderators, or a select few users. It would make it so that folks who need to be adding content and answering questions were able to by email....
This seems like it would be something people would have already wanted... thoughts?

Currently there is no such feature in the core or in an existing plugin.
