How to seal sliding glass door? | Forum

So I was at my moms house and noticed it was extra cold in her kitchen. I went to the sliding glass door and could feel air coming from between where the 2 pieces meet and you can move the door slightly back and forth in the frame. I’m assuming the seal is missing or just worn down, I didn’t look at it to closely yet.

Does anyone have experience with resealing these things?

Glass has such a low r factor that even without a gap the difference in temperature can make a candle flame flicker.

Sealing sliding glass doors can definitely make a big difference in keeping the cold out. I've had a similar issue before. You can usually find weatherstripping kits at home improvement stores. These kits have everything you need to replace the worn-out seals.

If you're still hunting for info, I've got a suggestion. You might also want to consider custom-made doors. That's how I found my solid wood front door, and it's been one of my best decisions. Custom options can ensure a perfect fit and better insulation.

Good luck with resealing! It's a relatively simple fix that can make your mom's kitchen much cozier.
