Hell everyone,

i am shocked to see in my recent users list in every hours 10-30 new user are registered from a Hotmail or some custom emails with all similar profile pics and activities, so just delete them everyday t keep my website status healthy.

And recently i used too see a Keyword in which spammers find Oxwall websites
in my google analytic s  that { oxwall "user blogs" -oxwall.org)

means they use to trace out oxwall powered websites and inject spam related contents.

So i need a help from this, I need to stop spammers, i have used many spam plugins but no use some of this plugins block Google Crawl Bots and show them SPAM ALert

try the Captcha plugin from the store, it's free and to be honest my spam join rate is practically nil and they were bad, keep diligently deleting them and that will help send out the message that you monitor your site n help to stop them

Spammers are bad on any social platform. Here are a few good options

1. CloudFlare.com
Plugin : http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/568

2. Smart Captcha
Plugin : http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/583

3. Admin ToolBox
Plugin : http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/683

Get http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/239 so that you know what the IP is of the spammers.

Block IP ranges for the bad countries in your cPanel

I have found that cluudflare REALLY slows down Oxwall.

Admin Tool box is worse one, because when i installed and enabled Spam blocker , it is blocking all connections to Gang Giz with a SPAM ALERT BOX, even it blocks Google Bot..

After i installed the Admin Toolbox, my website title Tag in Google Search result change to like this in the screen shot.

And about Smart Captcha ,

The Captcha in oxwall store is not compact size, it took large space to show... so it does not suites my website landing page (gangiz.com)

Cloud flare, also slows oxwall down and sometime shows OFFLINE Message

So any other Way...

Since I manually approve all of my users with the above suggestions. I have next to no spammers. Also changed the Oxwall Powered by link. I didn't remove it but I changed the wording some.

Two things that I have noticed the most with the spammers what they are looking for.
1.     Powered by Oxwall Community Software. Spammers search for this tag.
2.     They seem to know how the signup permissions are set.

Paul do share. The two I listed is what I was able to track down the most.

I do not believe people target oxwall because of the powered by oxwall ,I think this is just a few people that have made a bot to do auto posts on oxwall sites .You only have to see the source code to know its oxwall . There is alot you can do to stop spammers ,limit new members accounts to stop them posting right away, block peoples ip address in cpanel   ,etc. You will find any scrips that have blogs ,forums, will be a target for bots ,and human spammers

its not only Oxwall (ref your title) spammers hit all kinds of sites, open source, commercial, and otherwize.  They do like open source more because they dont have to worry about encryption they can download the software themselves and look for holes in the code.

But everyone gets hit with spammers, even my encrypted software does, they just find different ways to spam people is all.  Such as using the tell-a-friend page to spam people under my domain name or using the contact page to spam me.

And why you ask:

Bottom line is money $$$$$...   All they have to do is fish for tiny bits of info, some here, some there, might take them months but eventually they will have a profile built, and im not talking about only a profile on the site, im talking about a personal profile of YOU, or anyone else.

Then they sell that information,  where do you think much of the data comes from when people purchase fake profiles from these companies selling them to social sites, it comes from stolen data.  Also they use the information to create fake profiles themselves to cover their identity in committing crimes.

So you people out there that happen to be buying the fake profiles, you know who you are.  You dont want to build your site the right way, you go to these online companies and you buy 10,000 member package for so much $ and they send you a csv file or whatever.  You are financing the same people that are hacking and spamming your sites.

This is what happens when lazy people start social sites and dont want to commit to building it the right way.

The best and ONLY way to stop spammers right now today this second... Is to make it unprofitable, take the money they make away, and spammers will vanish like a fart in the wind.

Otherwise they will be here till the internet goes poof...

i just got 5 from this ip 182.68.127.137  which i blocked 182.68. in my cpanel.

Also as a tip make sure you go in and set up another account type such as premium.

Even if you dont use it there is a benefit.   Since you have two account types now, it will force your registration page to be in two parts now the first part with just a few items and then the continue button and the rest of it.

The benefit is that it will make the bots have to fill out the from in order to get to the next page.

For example:  if you have the question captcha and you have your reg form all on one page, the spammers can just look at all your questions and code their bots to answer without having to fill out anything.   Having the other account type forces the question on the next page so they have to fill out part of  form first.

It is not a huge deal but every part helps...
