What do you have the "Show profile name as" set to on admin/settings/user 

If it's Real Name, try changing it to username.

i know that works.... But what i wanna do is
Show profile name as "Real Name"

Search member using "Username"

This way is to prevent someone from knowing their username except we tell our friends our username...
