Cam, all images and CSS could have disappeared in case if "Origin" theme was somehow deleted.
"Origin" is a base theme that contains .html files that are used sitewide no matter which theme is active.
Most of your issues ( if not all) will be solved if you just install "Origin" theme again.

i had this same problem a few month ago i had to restore from a backup or do what ross said and re-install oxwall
