Oh no, does that mean it will be like this for another year or more or perhaps in some update to 1.6 this can be addressed after 1.6 is released?

fbkca, sorry for telling those news.
But to fix this, the whole "Newsfeed" plugin needs to be changed, which is not possible right now.

The link to the topic with workaround leads to "Page not found".
