Can't Remove/Delete Admin[Answered] | Forum

Hi,
I installed Oxwall through Softaculous. During the install a user named admin was created. I have since created a new user with admin privileges.

I would like to delete the admin user but I see no way off doing that. I can not remove the check box from Admin in the moderator panels because all the check boxes are greyed out for the admin user.

A search seems to indicate the admin can only be removed from the database. Is there a how to for that?

I can see the admin user in the database is it just a matter of deleting the entry?

At the very least I would like to hide the admin user from the browse users list. Is that possible?

Thanks

The default Admin is like any other user in that you can change the name and details about yourself in the profile. It does everything your new admin will do and possibly more.

Admin is the default user and as you say, it's set up when you create an Oxwall site. In my case I didn't want an Admin profile on my site so I simply changed the Username from Admin to John instead. I'm still the admin but appear as John to everyone else.

I would NOT fiddle with the database and it isn't necessary. Here's what you should do:

1. transfer all the information in your new admin to the default admin and delete yours.
2. Rename the default Admin user name to whatever you want in "Change your Profile Details" on your dashboard or your your profile page.

You can still login as Admin but you must use the new username. Now you will have some special features available to you including a link to the Admin dashboard on the top right.

Good luck.

Thanks Guys. I renamed the Admin and created an extra user with admin privileges just in case.

@MK That extra user can eventually be a moderator. When you need help just change the details of the extra user to the member who offers to help. You can take away his/her privileges at any time so there's no huge risk involved.

I'm already looking at creating moderators that can approve new users and delete things as necessary. It looks like if I just take away the admin check box under moderator they can do everything except modify the site.

Is that correct?

Thanks

as long as you dont check the admin box moderators can not access the admin area and they will not be able to customise your main/index page
