If they don't they should and is there anyway to make that happen. If they do and they don't on my site I wonder what I did to brake that.

I was wondering if it was just me or do the photos inserted into forum posts not open up in a litebox format?

No, the images should open in a new window. This is considered as a custom code modification. You may make a suggestion on uservoice or hire a programmer to do that for you.
