it's so sad to see many spam post in this forum, has been long using oxwall and i want to share little tips that might be help for oxwall.org and oxwaller to minimize spam poster. Maybe it's sound ridiculous and im stupid but my site is free from spam poster. here is what i do, im cloudflare user either but cloudflare also send spam traffic so stop  using them. install mod security , you need to erase some rule to make it not blocking real visitor or whitelist the rule. turn off your ssh server if not needed or use key auth.

Thanks for sharing ben, but unfortunately, cloudflare's spam tool cannot be accepted on oxwall.org.

We've already tested it and received too much false spam detection. Users complained that they were blocked with no reason. Oxwall.org has a huge traffic from different countries. And we suppose this block was due to that a lot of normal users use blacklisted IPs. So, we have to find another way to fight this.

Why not have a code den on a page and anybody wanting to sign up has to go to page and get code first ,then limit forum access to read only until code is checked ,this code could be changed oftan ,save keep removing spammer bots

what im trying to say is stop using cloudflare and start to install mod security. sorry my english is bad.

why stop using cloudflare? because mod securitywill often blocked cloudflare ip when doing maliciuos activity. Just in my opinion do not whitelist cloudflare ip on your firewall.

60% traffic now are bot robot traffic. I try mod security last year with apache and is good and now since i move to nginx to save server resources i have no clue how to install it and still in beta version

I think the best way to stop spam is to block all Ex links using  http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/633

or change the forum board to smf which does have a lot more control in combating spam
