The moderation team censors bad reviews | Forum

The moderation team censors negative reviews on plugins like the mailbox plugins.  It is really disgusting.  I submitted a bad review because any user can spam the whole community once they are approved and they deleted it.  What GARBAGE!!

Mismanagement is the greatest threat to Oxwall.

I agree Steve members need to know about bad plugins ,and bad reviews.

Steve, the review section was designed for customers who want to express their experience of the plugin usage, but not report the bugs or ask questions.
The review should help other users to see what is good/bad about the plugin and developers will see what is good/bad about their plugin as well.

Each developer in Oxwall Store can dispute any review on their plugins if they have the strong arguments. We carefully check into all facts and make a decision.
Therefore, we are considering each review separately and in case we find the review unfair because it contains only bug reports or questions, we refuse such review and ask author to contact the developer directly.

Thus, since the Mailbox plugin was developed by our team, not to waste time, I decided to contact you personally, to find out the main reason of your review. If your review were reasonable I would have approved it. But as I said we cannot approve your review due to the insufficiency of the information and you even didn't bother to explain what works wrong and what we can do to solve the existent problem.

If you posted a bad review on a third-party plugin which is not supported by facts, we would have acted the same way. We would have asked you to report the problem to the plugin developer, so they could solve it.

Steve, we believe this argument will lead us nowhere. So, if you want your review to be approved, you should describe your experience of plugin usage, so it made sense for other Oxwall users.

You have my deepest contempt Daisy.  It is people like you who are holding Oxwall down and keeping it amateur and bumbling and unprofessional.

I was quite clear about the defect in the design of the plugin.  It is simple.  Any user who gets validated can then private message all of the members with spam.   This has happened more than once.

You are a liar when you say that my review was not supported by fact.

Steve,

The review you left can't be accepted as it doesn't make any sense in that wording. Let me clear the point:

Here is your original text:

"Defective and insecure

It allows any new user to spam the whole community."

according to the mailbox feature, it's like saying "Don't use cars anymore, as they allows you to get into accident even you got a driver's license". No sense, if you want to know how the car is good or bad. Mailbox is just the way spammer operates on site. They also use photos, blogs, forums etc.

Even those, you have been contacted by our team member, to determine what exactly did you want to say. Because we really take care about user experience (some examples here and here ). But the team still didn't receive any explanation from your end.

Steve, I guess you as we all here, want to make Oxwall better. So, why just not describe your opinion deeper, so the team could understand your point, suggest and perhaps include any ideas into next update? I believe this will be more effective way to contribute the product than trying  to blame the team in censoring.

p.s.

Quote from Steve Winter It is people like you who are holding Oxwall down and keeping it amateur and bumbling and unprofessional.

The defect in the mailbox plugin is that it lets any new user send a private email to every existing user.  All any spammer has to do is just get an account and they can spam the users privately.  What I said is true and makes perfect sense.

What does not make sense is having the authors of plugins delete negative reviews.

Steve, how would you solve this then? Come on, give a reasonable example as to how this can be solved?

In fact, doesn't the mailbox plugin already have an anti spam function? If users send more than 5 (I think) messages in a short time, it displays a CAPTHA screen to verify they are human.

Easy solution.  Have honest reviews and let them stand or fall on their own merit instead of censoring them which is actually fraud because it makes it looks like there are reviews in place.

Easy fix for the problem I reported:  Well actually there are many fixes.

Allow the admin to set a limit for daily messages per day, hour etc.by user type.

Allow the admin to set a minimum number of public posts before anyone can message anyone other than the admin.

And there are many others in place in various products.

That's more of a problem with the initial software then it is a problem with the plugin.

Oxwall is and currently is targeted by many spam bots, spam software, etc. People know that many people are starting "networks" with Oxwall so there will be many potential users to spam out your marketing to by purchasing a spam bot to do your bidding.

This happened sometimes on my site, but I had some spam protection and would manually write a list of IPs to block in my .htaccess - so my spam was becoming as minimal as possible. However, it is bad here on Oxwall - there's a lot of spam and it's just continuing to happen.

It's not the plugin(s) that's a bust, but moreso the bust is in that no third-party or Oxwall theirselves have been able to find a strong solution to stop these things from spamming your site. I know spam can't be 100% killed off a website, but it can be controlled to a point where the majority of actual users are not bothered with it.

Oxwall, after 1.6.1 maybe it'd be a good recommendation to re-think a strong and good-working spam solution.

So their solution of trying to quash valid reviews on their shabby work is not working out for them?  I have found by blocking IP ranges it solves a lot of problems, but it creates others because apparently some Indian IPs are showing up as Chinese.

Mismanagement and incompetence seems to be driving Oxwall into the ground and that is a real true shame because the potential is awesome.

I ran into the same problem.

I bought the OrangeOF theme that I did not like (did not work as stated in the description).

I have posted a negative review, but it was removed with the wording: "Please post your reports or questions at the plugin support forum or contact the plugin developer directly. Reviews section is for posting reviews about your experience of using the plugin. Thank you for understanding."

What does it mean?

If I paid my money, I have the right to post any review, it is my right as a customer.

If you want to deprive me of the right to place a review - just return my money.

Then I automatically loses the right to any review.

The practice of removing the negative reviews - bad idea.

This practice does not allow a potential buyer to get objective information about the product, and does not encourage the developer to analyze and correct the deficiencies.

Most importantly, this practice leaves the buyer with no protection from unscrupulous developers.

Unprotected buyer - direct way to reduce monetize your project.

Alex, your review was deleted not because it was negative, but because it contained the error only. It looked like the error report, that's why you were suggested to post this problem on the plugin forum. You've posted the review (your opinion) on the theme item: http://www.oxwall.org/store/item/766/reviews/recent and it was approved.

Unfortunately, we cannot allow users to post just an error report or question to the review section, since the review feature was designed for customers who want to express their experience of the plugin usage and help other users/developer to see what is good/bad about the plugin, but not just post errors. Describe your experience of using the plugin in a couple of sentences and we will be glad to approve it.

Also, please read our Item Review Policy here: http://docs.oxwall.org/store:item-review-policy

Negative reviews are only deleted if they point out actual defects in the product??  Brilliant!!!

Oxwall seems to be getting better though, but I am sure it is extra hard work for the competent folks to work through such like...

I actually have had my fill of the oxwall software and have gone to Dolphin Boonex.

Ever since the upgrade to the NEW version I have had nothing but problems.

I made the switch a week ago and since then have not had ONE issue with Dolphin Boonex.

Sorry Oxwall .

I supported your system and the designers by buying all the addons and I will keep the oxwall system and plugins I have in case of an emergency and have to have a temporary community , but at this time Dolphin Boonex has beaten you as far as stability.

I dont feel that Oxwall has the stability it should have anymore. I started off with Oxwall and had great faith in the system , I really loved the way it looked, but little by little as upgrades came out , and modules became more and more incompatible it was forcing me to re-think my decision using the Oxwall system.

Now using the Dolphin Boonex I have everything Oxwall offered and much more !

You may want to consider what to do about this stability and module compatability issue and if you can resolve that, I may possibly reconsider returning to oxwall but for now , until I see that Oxwall's reputation is going up again instead of downwards, I will not be using it or buying any new items.

And believe me , I take no pleasure in having to state this ! I spent a few bucks here and wanted to see this system succeed ! I added things , upgraded as necessary and tried to keep it going as long as possible but my users should not have to suffer without a community to enjoy because when I try to add a new item for them , it crashes the whole community !

Good luck in future endeavors.

Steve, I clearly understand your point of view. But, we don't think that the review such as:

Page not found

Fatal error: Class 'foo' not found in /ow_plugins/foo/bol/service.php on line 152

500 Internal Server Error

not working

How to do something with the plugin?

and other similar reviews can show the customers the plugin usage experience  and help others to make a decision whether to buy this plugin or not?
Do you think that review section is the best place for the error reports?

Just imagine if you were the plugin developer and someone left such review and never would answer you when you tried to found out the reason? Do you think that it's fair?

Anyway, as I said, if the review contains helpful information that shows user experience and will not violate our Item Review Policy: http://docs.oxwall.org/store:item-review-policy - we will definitely approve it.

This topic was created because I tried to find out the reason of the review posted on Oxwall plugin since I am a member of the Oxwall team, however, to avoid such situations in future, from now on I will not participate in the review reason investigation.
