Ok, that looks about right what I want :)
If there are several groups with a shoutbox and I move from one to another, doe sthe plugin distinguish the different shoutboxes, so that the content shown is everytime different (depending on the group of course) ?

Yes, the shoutbox widget belongs to the group, so you won't see messages from other groups or index page.
Also it checks privacy permissions of the group.
