I have worked hard to get the upgrade done, and thought it was all ok, til this happen???

Just found that all my plugins got deleted when upgraded ????????

Site now back up and upgraded, all plugins went missing?? and was installed/configured via admin.
when plugins were gone, i decided to restore my back up(1.6) and to start again, when i did this, and went to site to check, it turned into 1.7??? with all plugins lol so confused, but at least all is well now...(fingers crossed)
