On the download page, I did not see any purchase/cost info associated with the Oxwall software.

Am I correct in understanding there is NO cost associated with using Oxwall except for:
-- hosting fees, and
-- some for-fee plugins?

Or, am I missing something?

Thanks,
Metta

Hi
You are in true, Oxwall is free :)

Oxwall is free to use.  You sort out your own hosting either on shared sites, dedicated servers or at home etc.

Hosting can be cheap but it really depends on how many users at one time will be using your site.  My site isn't that busy but when it does my host complains about resource usage and the site slows down!

get the best hosting you can afford.  Saves you needing to move later if needed.
(However moving oxwall is quite easy)

I continue to be impressed with this software, and I'm seriously considering setting up my own hosted version of Oxwall.

However, once I have the software up and running, who will provide ongoing support and help with troubleshooting technical issues?
-- Oxwall?
-- My web host?
-- Or, will it be up to me to figure out how to resolve any technical problems using this support forum?

Metta,

There is no anything like paid support for oxwall..

You can post up your issues and questions in the forum and members here will try to help you out.

Web Host can only help in configuring some server related stuffs.

At some point of time you will be good enough to handle all issues yourself.

Thanks so much for your ultra-prompt feedback.  I genuinely appreciate your help.

However, I will have to think long and hard about taking on the support for my own site since I have virtually no experience with managing the back-end of a web site as complex as this! :-|

I just now discovered your recommendation to hire someone to help with the tech support for a hosted Oxwall site.

In light of this, I was wondering:
-- Has Oxwall ever considered providing a listing of people who are willing to provide Oxwall support services on a freelance basis?
-- If not, is this something you would be willing to consider?

Being able to call on someone for technical support who has experience working with Oxwall would be an absolute God-send for people such as myself:
-- who want the flexibility and features Oxwall provides, but
-- who have neither the experience nor the expertise to skillfully manage the troubleshooting necessary on technical web site issues.

FYI, I just checked the "specialists" in Oxwall's o-Desk Marketplace, and there was no one who listed "Oxwall" among their areas of expertise.

You can contact individual developers like me with your request , so that they can help you out.

Quote from Metta FYI, I just checked the "specialists" in Oxwall's o-Desk Marketplace, and there was no one who listed "Oxwall" among their areas of expertise.

You can add a keyword "oxwall" so that developers can get that. Even I am not satisifed how o-Desk is organized.

Thank you for your suggestion. We will think of this.

Metta, you might also want to check www.wall.fm . It is a free webservice that works on Oxwall platform and supports its plugins and themes.

Thanks, Aliia.  I'm actually using Wall.fm already, and I've been considering a switch to Oxwall for the additional features and flexibility the self-hosted application provides.

In the meantime, thank you very much for your consideration of my request to provide a list of folks who are willing to provide Oxwall support services.  This would be a big help! :-)

Metta,

I'm a fairly new user to the Oxwall community and have been impressed with how much configuration I've been able to figure out on my own and how much assistance I've been given by other community members.  I'm not a programmer or backend web guy, but I've managed to do much more with my configuration than I ever expected.  Since you're already a Wall.FM user, I think you will appreciate how much more freedom and flexibility you get with Oxwall.  You also know much more about the software than I did when I started two months ago.

Good Luck!

Thanks, Tom, for your encouraging words of support!  Very kind of you!

I'm delighted to know you've found Oxwall to be user-friendly, and heartened to know that support from the Oxwall community has helped you customize the configuration of your site.

Also, when you're ready to share your site with others, I'd love to take a look! :-D
