Hi there,
this is a small issue for sure but still ...
I register a new user, and the process is finished with the notice "please verify your email adress" and the option to resend the mail.
Ok, so now user heads over to his mail account to verify, but the mail takes some time to arrive. He decides to go back to the community page to browse while he waits - BUT he is redirected to the join page every time and can only see the notice to verify his email adress. Only if he closes the browser completely and restarts it can he go back to the community.

Is there any workaround so that users can go back to the main page of the community and not be redirected to the join page in betwwen registering and verifying?

I highly doubt anyone would want to fix this.  That step is just a pre-caution to make sure no spammers join your network without a valid email address.  That is the main reason why that is there - for extra security.

You can always disable that feature if you do not want that:

1. Go to your admin dashboard

2. Click on Settings

3. Click on User Settings

4. Under the email settings, un-checkmark "Confirm Email"

5. Save

This will allow anyone to join your site without having to confirm their email - beware though - you may end up getting quite a bit of spammers joining your network.

Again, that page your users see when joining (if the "Confirm Email" setting is checkmarked) is for extra security - so I highly doubt that will change and/or be considered an issue...

If you are worried that your users are unable to see or browse your community after registering, you can always make an announcement that never goes away - letting them know how they can go around that specific page after registering if they want to continue browsing your site until they receive that email.

Example:

1. On your main page - Click the "Customize this page" button at the top.

2. Drag the "Custom text/HTML" available widget to a spot you feel is appropriate on your main page

3. Click the settings button from that widget you just placed

4. Add this: <p>Attention: New users upon registration will need to confirm their email address.  Once you have registered, you will be redirected to a specific page - if you are waiting for your email confirmation but want to browse our community in the meantime, please close your browser and re-open it.  You may browse our community once again (if you are still waiting on that confirmation email) upon doing so. - Thanks</p>

You can re-word that however you want - but that would at least give your users the knowledge of how to browse if they have to wait on that confirmation email.

You can even limit viewability on that widget to only guests - that way your other members who are logged in will not have to see that message!

Hope that helps!

Hi Hybrid,
thxs very much. I know all that.

I just don't see how spammers come into this? As long as the member is not approved by me and has not confirmed his or her email adress, he has viewing rights only as a guest, as every guest. So why should I lock him out of the page in that time between registering and confirming the email adress? He cannot do any more harm in that time than before registering.
I just want him to be able to browse the community like any other visiting guest. So where's the problem?

Make a suggestion on uservoice: http://oxwall.uservoice.com/forums/13756-ideas-for-oxwall

In the meantime this is considered as a custom code modification. You're free to do that on your own or hire a programmer. You can do that here: http://www.oxwall.org/market/specialists

Also you can make a post in the custom code modification section of the forum, probably some community member will assist you with that.
