Okay, so how would I go about fixing that then? I haven't edited my php.ini file at all (mostly because I have no idea how to).

are you on a shared host server or do you have root access, like a vps or dedicated server?
James
James Apr 12 '15
I'm on a shared server with ZettaHost.

Then you will need to contact them and let them know your email is not being sent and let them know you tested php mail and nothing received.   They can check the server settings and such and see whats up.

wish i had better news...

while your waiting because they may ask, look in your error_log text file in domain root where you ran that file and see if any errors in there.  Look at the bottom of that list and at the date, some of them may be old.

You can edit that file and clear out all the old errors and resave it if you want.  Then anything you get will be new.

are you on their free hosting plan?
James
James Apr 12 '15

i asked because their free plan is quite limted and may require SMTP.   Ok just checking... let me know what the resolve is so it will help others please...

thanks and all the best :)

Ah, okay. Their reply to me is that they only allow PHP mail to be sent if the from and reply-to fields are set to an email address that is hosted by them.
So basically I can't set it to a Gmail one like I had.

Interesting... i been running a hosting company for awhile now, this is the first i have heard of that sort of rule..   Just another rule i guess.

So they want you to use your domain web mail address i guess.

Exactly. They say it's to reduce spam. But whatever lol.

Dave thanks for investigating the issue.

James, in this case I believe you need to change your provider as users won't get any notifications and mass mailing from your website.

James
James Apr 13 '15
Thanks, but I just created a no-reply email address with my domain instead, which solved the issue.

James, what about other users who are going to join your website? How will they get the notifications and other e-mails?
James
James Apr 14 '15
They will still receive them since the from and reply-to fields have an email address that is from my domain (ex. no-reply@socialnetwork.com instead of no-reply@gmail.com).
