No I do not see the platform update request anymore since I went into the phpmyadmin area and disabled the messages plugin. However I can now go anywhere inside of the admin panel, when I go too installed plugins it says messages is inactive. And my build at the bottom left of the offical is 1.7.2

You need to configure your cron jobs in order to get the platform update notification

Or you need to update the platform manually. See tutorials here: https://docs.oxwall.org/install:update

https://docs.oxwall.org/install:cron

Ok, See that's where I am stuck, I'm having issues with creating a cron job. Are you able to guide me threw this? As I'm not too familiar with it, but I have all the tools we need to get the job completed.

I use 1and1 as my provider and they use something called SSH - Secure Shell Access - Which you have too use putty with. I have downloaded putty. And I can gather the login info for the server to get this setup. I just need some type of walk threw in order to do this.

Its not that easy, you will have to add a user to the wheel of the server root and then you will need to set up a key on the server and then use that key with putty.  Its been a long time since i actually did this so i think i have all that correct.  There are lots of videos on youtube on how to set up and use putty, some late night viewing will help alot.

just remember to never turn off remote access because then youll be locked out and youll have to contact the server guys to unlock you.   Also dont forget to put your dev mode back the way it was.

Hello Dave,

I have already setup that all in the past, I have a main user ftp account that has root access too the account. But putting in the right key information to get the cron to work right is where I'm lost at, because last time I done it, kept saying that there was no cron like it is now, when I originally thought I had set it up.

Bobby the instructions are given in the tutorial I gave. Did you see it?

If you can't do that on your own, contact your hosting provider to assist you with this or you need to update the platform manually without calling for the notification.

I have also provide the tutorial.

Please be more attentive.

The first link you given me is not working the second link does work. As to the core update, do I download like the whole package as if I was starting a new update, or is there just updated files in a core update package?

Hello Ross,

I've downloaded and unzipped the new updated pack, then uploaded it to the folder with the main ow files in it, waiting for the upload to finalize.

Kind Regards,

Bobby, follow the steps in the tutorial

Bob Brown Apr 15 '15
Hello Ross,

These steps?

  1. Download Oxwall Update Pack at Oxwall.org/download;
  2. Unpack it to the root folder of your software install;
  3. Finalize update by calling yoursite.com/ow_updates

If so I have followed 1-2, the 3rd step, I'm not so sure what it is actually referring too as the update of the core pack was sent to the folder where my ow files are located.

you should replace yoursite.com with your actual domain
Bob Brown
Bob Brown Apr 15 '15
Ross,

I'm not sure what that means exactly as my domain is already pointed twoards the folder that is containing my OW files. EXAMPLE: www.cprworldwidemedia.net/radio/OW FILES , as where I  uploaded the new updated pack too ? That's already done.

Kind Regards,

Bobby Brown
