yes i have tryed that and it did not work 

when a user uploads a photo the description field needs to be required 

or if not filled in default to  "usernames photo" 

i need this as my site is full of images with no alt tags
google hates this and penilises you so much on it 

and as so many have asked for it i thought it would of been part of the last few updates 
as it has not been part of the updates i need a mod for it

and got no answer

when 1.6 lost photo tags was heaps ppl needing this we are at 1.7.4 and is still big problem 

+1 to wot Tammy says.

please has anyone come up with a solution to this problem
