But, - there always seems to be one - hopefully a little one - the background page image is aligned top-left and I need to change it to centred. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Just a quick question. This free out-of-the-box theme is working weel for my site whilst I am getting to grips with a new CMS, and I have been able to configure it to suit so far.

David, it would be better to provide a screenshot of the area what you want to modify.
But if I understood you correctly, you may add the following CSS code via the Admin Area>Appearance>Edit Theme>CSS tab.
Paste the following code:
.ow_header div { margin: 0 auto; width: 740px;}
