Hi,

We think this is a bug.

We tend to think that when the event handler triggers a newsfeed post...

If we have a group set to :

who can view : By invitation only (which means that only invited group members can see the group)

When someone joins a group. Their joining of the group gets posted in the newsfeed.

We would tend to expect that the newsfeed item should only appear for the members of the group.

Is there some other logic at play here, or is this a bug/oversight?

Do you mean that the info appears in the profile and dashboard newsfeed? As it does not in the main one

Yes, I mean that. Other users, not in the group, can see the post, including the group details etc. I would tend to expect that the newsefeed item, would only be visible for members of the group. The logic being:-

Members of the invite only group want to see that a new user has joined. But others shouldnt be, as they are not invited.

Hope I am explaining it well :)

Well, they still can't see the content of the group. The group is private which is why the newsfeed item is created on the profile newsfeed and not on the main page for other users to see.

The purpose of the profile newsfeed is to show user's activity to those who is interested in it that are friends and followers.

However if you want your activity to be private on the profile newsfeed, you're free to delete it from your profile activity list.

Therefore what you want to achieve is considered as a custom code modification, as default software does not have such functionality. You will need to do that on your own or hire  a programmer.
