Having struggled along since the release of 1.8 which resulted from me not following instructions resulting in me losing my entire web site, to being locked out, to following every thread that matched the problems I was experiencing I am no further forward with 1.8, I am sure I have 1.73 and 1.8 running together, is this a mess or a miracle? I have files dated from the 1.8 update and others not touched.I do have my site up and running but with more problems than I had relating to more requested notifications to update almost everything which I dare no touch, no matter how tempting this is. Given this mess, I am a small new growing site with a little under 250 users, is it best I leave things as they are, errors and all but working and wait for an update of 1.8 or what, and/or would that fix my clutter of mess install. I really would appreciate any suggestions. At the moment, the only main issue my users have is uploading a photo to the main newsfeed, although they can upload photos elsewhere. Hence my reluctance to tamper with it. I should mention my hosts in an attempt to help me created a new data base and lord knows what they've done. I really do have a multi part platform running.

Did you do a backup of your website before doing the update?

Did you follow this instructions?
1. deactivate all third-party plugins.
2. turn on 'Maintenance mode" in Admin Panel >Pages&Menus > Maintenance Page
3. enable DEBUG mode ( set to "true" in ow_includes/config.php)
4. perform platform update.
5. update native Oxwall plugins.
6. update your theme.
7. enable DEV mod in ow_includes/config.php
8. Turn "Maintenance Mode" off.
9. refresh any site page and disable DEV MODE: define('OW_DEV_MODE', false);

If everything is ok, activate and update third party plugins one by one. Check your site after updating each plugin. Contact plugin developer if you get any issues.

After update has been completed make sure that ow_logs folder got renamed to  ow_log.

What is the exact issue you have now? What do you mean you have files from 1.7.3 and 1.8 together?

Hello Ross thank you for you reply and no I didn't follow all of those steps, hence the horrid mess my setup is today. It was assumed I had, but I obviously missed something whichever I was I cant recall as I thought I had followed it all. My Platform version from admin reads Version 1.8 (build 9900) I say files from 1.7.3 and 1.8 as my host ( fixed it ) because so many of the files from the 1.8 update were missing/lost, they ( my hosts ) told me they were missing the files  nd used ones from the back up ( which was 1.7.3). I did try and update the saved site which was backed up before the update process but it failed and didn't work, there was many errors ( reason unknown ) I ended up with back ups that couldn't be re uploaded, this being the reason I asked my hosts to help. I fear updating all these plugins ( 10 of )and my theme ( Nightclubbing - Responsive ) which are all screaming for updates. I don't even have an option to revert back to basic theme to check things out, in fact I can not use any other themes even though I can clearly see in my themes folder via the cPanel as they don't show anywhere in my admin via the site. My site is up and working currently but not 100% functional as it was prior to my breaking it during a platform update.

Please check the issue is fixed. Next time please tell the truth that you customized the software. You put nightclubbing theme as a default theme in the core upload admin.html file from simplicity to your nightclubbing theme, of course everything will look broken.

Keep in mind we do not provide assistance with modified or customized software or plugins only with the default one.

Thank you Ross your help in this matter was much appreciated, ( from my hosts today ) the sys support worker that helped me with my problem tell me they couldn't find admin.html file when I messed up the update and used another, if that means anything to you.

Thank again
