I would love to see an autocomplete implemented in the plugin, so we can tag users using the @ tag.

This is considered as a custom code modification of the plugin. You need to do that on your own or hire a programmer.
Also you can make a suggestion on uservoice: https://oxwall.uservoice.com/forums/13756-ideas-for-oxwall if it gets enough voices, we'll consider implementing it.
